Those who know me personally, realize I am presently unemployed. I have never been without a job my entire life, since the age of 15. Even before that, I was picking up pop cans (I’m from Michigan where they have that hobo-loving 10 cent refund on all pop cans) or scooping up worms at night to sell them the next morning to fisherman heading out to Lake St. Clair.

I have an impressive resume and great consultant offering, but still nothing after 3 months. It gets incredibly depressing at times. Since I’ve never been in this position, I am not totally sure how to act.

I spend my days looking online and massaging the network of friends and acquaintances. I do several other things as well. Play with the little guy (no, not that…Jackson, my son); work on the blogs; sell stuff on Craigslist and eBay; and all kinds of other things that make me fell like a complete bum. I’m doing my best to make money while being out of work, but it is getting quite depressing.

I am starting to become a believer in the Law of Attraction. I know that what you put out is what you get back - it’s that simple. So, during this difficult time, I need to focus my thoughts on feeling better about things.

This is my biggest challenge while going through this difficult time. It is starting to affect my relationships and family. Negative thoughts keep creeping in and the financial markets keep making me think I need to go buy a Uni-bomber cabin in Montana and 2 tons of beans, rice and cornmeal for the next Apocalypse.

This is the hardest job in the world, but one you love to do (all night long).

When we brought home little Jackson on April 2, 2007, we were delighted new parents and I had my boy. As a man who wanted children, I was of course biased and wanted a son. I know we are getting a little girl from China when that call comes in (so Daddy will have his little girl), but this adoption was simply a crap shoot. A crap-shoot that I won and got my son.

He is a joy to have and we love him dearly, but we were not prepared for this newborn. I mean we took the classes, waited several years for our child to arrive, prayed continuously, watched all of our friends who were having multiple children, paid our money, submitted ourselves to all the background checks, went through a homestudy with a social worker (3 times) and list goes on and on. Adopting is really tough…

So we bring him home and we start parenting. Sound a little whacked? It is. Anyway, we are 10 weeks into this thing and I can honestly say, there is nothing, whether biological child or not, that prepares you to be a parent. People have kids all the time, but parenting is something totally different. Below is my anatomy of being a father for the first time. My wife was just fine…took to it like a natural. But men simply don’t have this instinct. It is all biological and there is something in women that is not in men.

One more thing before I get into it. When we picked him up, I really felt like a bad person. I looked into his eyes and saw him and felt absolutely nothing for this child. I knew he was ours and we waited a long time for him, but did not feel like he was ours. The love was not there, but after talking to some friends about their own biological children, I felt a TON better that they felt the same thing. Even with their own children, they really didn’t get that bond right away. This is normal guys, so don’t freak out. Once the little ones smile back at you and start really wanting to be with you - EVERYTHING changes!

Week 1
He is a boy, so I can start playing with him right away right? Throw him around and put a glove in his hand and we are good? Of course not. But suffice to say, I really had no idea what I was doing. The wife and I put the crib in our room and woke up on every moan, cry, or silence. We were (I was) a complete wreck. No sleep would have been a step in the right direction. The prodigy woke up every couple of hours looking for food, but I was a man about it and took it like a champ (the wife would say I was a wuss, but I know better).

Week 2
I am still a guy and will take it like a man. I tell my Mom that I want the child on a schedule ASAP so we can get him sleeping through the night. She laughed. Look, I am the boss and I want him sleeping through the night - at least for a few more hours than every 3 hours waking up to crying bloody murder. Nope. Any guys out there expecting or kids on the way, DON’T fight it. Just give in to Mommy and follow her lead. Life will be MUCH better.

He went in for his circumcision during this time. This is NOT fun guys…seriously. You are starting to really care for this child and know that you will do anything for him. Our doctor was amazing and the process was great, but the aftermath was very difficult. You go through about 5 days of a lot of Vaseline and Neosporin. It was painful for him, but even more painful for us. After that fifth day, he was back to normal and his “little guy” looked like it should.

Weeks 3-4
Growth spurts always happen during this time. All the books tell you that they go through growth spurts here. Our guy was no different. He was growing a pound a week. That is crazy. He was eating like nuts and pooping like a winner. One more thing, guys, you will have new words in your vocabularies like poopies and ‘cooking the dookie’ - this last one is my favorite.

He went in for his first month’s vaccination at the end of week 4. He was in a TON of pain after these shots in his thighs. Even more so than the butchering of his manhood during the second week of his life. That seemed to be less painful afterwards. I don’t know why, but again, guys don’t freak out - I heard this was normal. Just keep giving him the infants Tylenol and bare with it. It takes about 24 hours before it subsides and then it is back to “normal” - whatever that is.

Weeks 5-7
Things are starting to get a little better. He is sleeping about 4 hours at a time and the wife and I are now getting into a routine. We are no longer BOTH waking up every time he cries for food and the kid has long been evicted to his own room. He is actually starting to grow out of his infant diapers and eating a ton more as he is in the middle of another mini growth spurt. He is starting to actually recognize our voices and he even smiles like he knows who you are. But he is probably smiling about something he saw or heard 5 minutes ago. He is still a few steps ahead of an amoeba, but that is all about to change.

Weeks 8-10
Here we are, end of week 10 and we both are really falling in love with our son. He is no longer “the child” or “the boy” - he is Jackson and starting to interact a ton more with us. Still nothing too drastic, but we are definately in his top 10 people. And the best of all, we are very lucky here, he is sleeping through the entire night. Goes down at 10 PM and wakes up at 6 AM. He has done this for 4 nights straight and he doesn’t even cry in the morning when he wakes. He just hangs out looking at the ceiling fan. We have made it.

If you did not catch on, the anatomy of the father for the first 10 weeks of my son’s life centered around the sleep deprivation that comes along with it. If you are as lucky as I am and get them sleeping by week 10, count your blessings. Some kids sleep through right away, but those are rare. Some kids take a lot longer. Nothing wrong with the kid - they are just a little different. However, it stinks for the daddy’s (and the mommy’s) out there that have to wake up in the morning and go earn the coin.

In any event, there is nothing ANYONE can tell you that can prepare you for those first 10 weeks. You simply have to live through it to understand what it means. You can’t throw down a six pack at night when you know you will be up at 3 AM feeding the kid. You can’t live like you did. You have to change your life for the short term and that is just fine. You can reclaim your old habits over time. The major disruption is worth it and getting back to your old way of doing things can wait. Without a doubt, it is worth it.

Weight loss and Fitness Update:

I took the Jackson for a run/walk last night in our amazing jogging stroller and fortunately I did not have too many people around to witness the carnage. I try to get out 1-2 per week and I hope things get better? COME ON… Huffing and puffing and walking most of the way.

(Also, our jogging stroller is expensive if you buy it new. We were given this one, but if you are trying to get active with your kids, don’t think for a moment about spending the extra coin on this. I am frugal, but this stroller is TOTALLY worth it.)

I need to get out there and do something every day. This is the best piece of advice I have ever gotten concerning fitness. The other piece of advice that I cherish is that you are not going to lose all the weight over night. You must continue to put “one foot in front of the other” and keep going/never quit. Finally, the ultimate piece of advice: set goals that you can easily obtain (see below).

Here are 7 sure-fire ways to keep yourself motivated while attempting to lose weight and get in shape:

Get Information
There are so many resources online it gets completely overwhelming. I did a search on men’s fitness and found 1.4 million sites. Men’s fitness tips and men’s fitness advice is a manageable 350,000 sites, but still, the advice and guidance is abundant. One point of caution: find a source, or a just couple of them, of information and stick with them. I like Men’s Fitness and AskMen. There are tons of others, but I simply don’t have the time to read all of it.

Set Goals
Make your goals so obscenely easy to attain that they embarrass you to tell friends. Seriously, studies have shown that your brain does not differentiate between easy and hard goals - just success and failure. Make all your goals easy to attain and sooner than you think, your brain will be re-wired to believe that you can attain any goal you set for yourself. One of the biggest hurdles in this process is convincing yourself you can do this. Get out of the way of your own self.

Be Creative
This is essential in my workouts and diet. Change things up as much as you can tolerate. Move from weight lifting to cardio to circuit to hiking outside. As soon as you lose interest and start getting board, you will find yourself looking for excuses to not do it.

Fix the attitude
Even if you have a great attitude about this process, never forget that you always need practice in fine tuning it to perfection. Make this process of weight loss and fitness part of your life - part of who you ARE! This will make it as difficult to miss as skipping that morning coffee. I get real cranky without the morning caffeine and hopefully I will soon feel this way about my fitness routine.

Keep a progress log
Yup, I know I will get pushback here. My wife likes keeping a log on EVERYTHING. I like writing here, so I will do it online at Bushbaker.com. Mostly, guys hate this, but many experts believe it is essential to keep track of your progress to help make changes as needed. My wife uses a log to monitor Jackson’s feedings. It has helped us tweak what he needed and we have a perfect weight and healthy young boy. He sleeps through the night now and we credit that log that helped us along the way.

Use reminders
Sticky notes, motivational posters, motivational print outs, pictures of what you want to look like, pictures of yourself that you DON’T want to look like (my favorite) are all good ways to do this. Keep the fact that you are trying to lose weight and get in shape right at the front of your brain. It makes it that much harder to cheat and procrastinate.

Reward yourself
NEVER forget that it is a process. You must train yourself to change your life and rewire the brain to accept this as part of your life. Don’t fight science regardless of silly it may sound. Reward yourself when you reach your ridiculously easy goals. This will reinforce that you are doing the right thing - even if you know you are tricking (training) yourself.

Finally, the main reason I am embarking on this life changing weight loss and fitness regimen is that I love my family. I love them so much that I want to be around for them for a long time. I have had a few friends kick it lately WAY before their time was up. Really good people, great attitudes, just all around good people. They were not taking care of themselves and found out they either had cancer, diabetes, or other weight related things that caused their early departure. This is a nasty piece of reality that forces us to have our own little growth spurts as people…

Oh yeah, I almost forgot my update:

Tuesday was a little better. I did not splurge too much on nasty food and got out with my son for a 2 mile walk/run. He loves it and it’s good for me so I will continue doing this every day - so long as I follow my own advice.

Take a peak at my picture on my about page and you can see I am a decent looking guy (nothing special, but nothing horrid either). Go ahead, I’ll wait, but make sure you come back and read the rest…

That picture was taken of me back in 2000. I use it because I was in a great physical condition at the time and feel comfortable with it. Take a look at some of the pics from my recent adoption of my son and you will see that I have completely let myself go. I am ashamed to admit my weight or my physical fitness level on this blog, but I am letting it all hang out.

I recently weighed myself and I am hovering around 250. Since I am only 5′11″, I am bordering on obese. My wife still loves me and my new son is sure to love me. But I really don’t love myself and that has taken its toll on my marraige and will now threaten a future relationship with my son, Jackson.

So, today is the day that everything changes. You have any idea how many times I said that? If I had a nickel every time…. In this case, though, I am putting this information on this blog and I hope any who read this hold me to task. My future with my family depends on it. I will be enlisting the support of several blogs that I have encountered recently that help with people needing to get themselves on the right path.

Every day, I will have some good content laden posts on all kinds of subjects, but I will also have a post on what I accomplished on my health and fitness. Losing weight is a terrible thing to do and is a wonderful thing to have done. I don’t pretend to ignore this fact, but I think the real trick to permenent weight loss is to make the act of of losing the weight as rewarding as possible. To rewire your circuits in your brain to embrace the journey of the weight loss.

In any event, I hope some people find this information inspiring in some way and want to join me in my quest. Here is what happened yesterday:

(I know will take some heat for that…)

At the beginning of the movie, Cruise’s character was interviewing with several law firms after graduating from Harvard Law at the top of his class. When he finally gets to interview with the evil empire out of Memphis, Jerry Hardin’s character, after some intriguing questioning from Cruise, admits he bribed the clerk in the placement office to tell him the highest offer for Cruise and then added 20%.

Now, it might have been the second glass of wine my wife tackled already, but she says, “that is so hot.” She’s kind of spunky over this old guy telling Cruise how he was able to cheat the system. Really? No! Really?

I thought about this for awhile and it became apparent to me that this obvious bad thing, bribing, can not only be OK, but, dare I admit, sexy. I mean who am I argue something that gets the lovely and talented all worked up?

Maybe she was all juiced about the fact that this guy was going to get paid and that these group of old guys were going after him. The chase was on and I think this might have been what did it for her. The idea of being pursued and romanced was definitely a theme in this scene.

When it comes to being pursued and understanding the chase, you know that money always plays a role and using it in a method to give you an unfair advantage to get what you want in the end, is well, capitalism at its finest. And if you were honest with yourself, you would find a way to justify this action in your mind - so long as it is not hurting others in the process.

I know. I will get all kinds of flack over my position on this. I do NOT condone bribery in any way, but used in this way seems not only OK, but actually seems efficient and judicious. It certainly appears to be “hot” - from what I understand.

I was on the road today and found myself looking down at the gas gauge almost immediately. I guess I remember dropping a Benjamin just a few days ago to fill up the family truckster and I’m still pretty pissed about it. Of course, the first thing that came to mind - how can I save money here and share that with the Bushbaker Nation (all 4 of you).

A few of the tips you will not see here is walking, buying a scooter or buying a different ride. All of those, and many more like em, are nice in theory, but not practical for those of us needing to drive 40 miles tomorrow to get to wherever. What you will see is simple changes to driving techniques, automobile tips to get better gas mileage, and tips to filling up at the pump. Fight back tomorrow against high gas prices with some simple changes that can be implemented immediately. And maybe you will only have to part with Grant ($50) instead of those coveted Benji’s ($100). Here are my top ten.

Drive slower. First on the list since this is what I did today. I set the old cruise control at 65 mph on a busy expressway. There were some people bent about me driving so slow, but I pretty much only care about my wallet at this point. So many people speed aimlessly around and don’t even know why. My slightly slower driving didn’t have a HUGE impact on my gas savings, but every little bit, right?

Keep tire pressure up. Low pressure on tires means for a slightly better ride since you feel the bumps less, but does horrible things for gas efficiency. Keep the pressure to the recommended tire pressure printed on the side of the tire. This can be a huge saver immediately.

Find good gas prices. This is the “no freaking kidding” item on this list, but you would be surprised how we pass up a good deal for convenience. Of course, don’t go out of your way for the better price, unless it is HUGE, but do your homework. Visit great internet sites like Gas Buddy and the local Las Vegas Nevada gas price buster site.

Avoid idling. My wife always says “you use more gas turning the car back on than if you just let it run.” Sorry darling…the experts don’t agree. The experts say that if you are going to idle for more than 30 seconds, it is worth it to turn off the engine. Along the same notion…turn off the air conditioning. Step up and deal with a little warmer weather (unless where you are going requires you to look proper and then you should splurge).

Anticipate stop signs and lights. There are many offshoots of this, but the general theory is to drive at a constant speed and avoid unnecessary acceleration if you can. Your passengers will thank you and so will your mechanic when it is time to check the pads.

Take care of your ride. Change the air filter regularly (especially if you live the desert like me). Get regular oil changes and use a fuel injector cleaner. These are all good things to do for your auto anyway so why not do it in the name of saving some scratch?

Plan your trips in advance. Planning is good. Trust me. If you know exactly where you are going and how to get there, you will not make mistakes and (since we are guys) drive around aimlessly for HOURS instead of asking the homeless guy where the heck you are. The shopping list when going to the grocery store analogy works good here as well.

Fill up at certain times and days. There was an email that went around the net in October of last year from a petroleum worker. You can read it here. Some good tips and they WILL save you money. Also, I have been told that filling up on Wednesdays is the best day. Prices are the cheapest on this day, but you will only see these savings playing this over the long term.

Remove unnecessary racks. Three words that should never be put together - ever. But it made the list anyhow. Essentially, remove any drag that could cause your ride to get worse gas mileage.

Use the cheap stuff. Use the lowest recommended octane in your car. Many vehicles don’t need the more expensive stuff, so don’t think you are doing your sled any better by putting in the higher priced fuel.

I know that when I was driving today to my meeting, I was sickened by the thought my ride was chomping through the fuel like it was going out of style…literally. In my opinion, gas prices are not coming back. They are here to stay and that will change everything from where people live to how they entertain themselves to how they work. Even garbage collection will change…

Learn to identify 10 dysfunctional money-related behaviors

Frugal Dad recently posted on a story from Get Rich Slowly on this topic. I don’t want to comment specifically on the contents of this blogpost - it is heart wrenching and frankly it does not need another blogger chiming in. However, I do encourage you to go to the sites and read what these two great writers have to say on the issue.

Normally, I take a no-nonsense approach to this type of thing. “The parents, kids, friends cousins, etc who are in financial trouble got there because they were not disciplined. They deserve to have some tough times and this is simply God giving them a little growth.” I believe GRS referred to it as “Give up and move on” as to what some of the readers might suggest. It is a VERY tough situation that I have not yet had to deal with in my life, but I am certain it is coming.

The real issue I wanted to address is to how to identify when a family member or friend is heading down this path. If you can identify the behavior, maybe, just maybe, you can help them, or yourself, resolve it before things get crazy. These are not all in-your-face type of behaviors. Some are extremely subtle and very hard to detect

Here is a list of ten dysfunctional money-related behaviors:

Using money as a mood-changer. Many people use spending money to change their moods after a bad day or family argument, etc. If you get the feeling you are doing this, stop and think before acting. Are you using the purchase to get back at someone? Try to view the situation in a new way. Develop more flexible problem-solving skills.

We’ll deal with it later. Incurring more debt only puts more financial stress on you to pay more, which is a VERY risky behavior. What would happen if someone lost their job, or got too sick to work? Waiting to deal with issue later could be the kiss of death. As Tony Robbins would say, “kill the monster while it is still young.” Always deal with it head on.

Till debt do us part. Marriage is tough enough, but when couples get out of control with their finances, it always ends badly. Keeping secrets about how money is spent, or earned, can create havoc and erode trust at home. People differ in their attitudes about budgets, investment style, insurance needs, standard of living, vacations, hobbies, etc. It is important to choose someone from the outset whose values are in sync with yours, or if its too late for that, to have regular discussions about financial priorities and decisions.

Hidden addictions. This one can be obvious, but oftentimes is not. The internet has changed everything for this one. Shopaholism, gambling and drugs are all well-known addictions and sometimes are easy to spot. They all eat up huge amounts of money and can ruin someone’s life very quickly. But when the internet came into play, things changed for those with addicting personalities. Having the latest gizmo, software, hardware, clothing, etc is now just a click away and can be done VERY discretely.

Not planning for major purchases or choosing impulsively. Major appliances eventually roll over and die. Replacing these items is costly, but sometimes our emotions take over what could be a rational process. Sometimes, we may feel a sense of entitlement where “only the best will do.” This occurs with items that NEED replacing and items that WANT replacing. Or even worse yet, items we have NO NEED for at all, but all of the sudden are “must haves”.

Playing rescuer for the financial crises of grown children. This one can be for your grown children or your parents (going the other way.) You might do this because a) you feel you “have to” in order to prevent some catastrophe, or b) because its “what good parents or children do,” or c) because you get a kick out of stepping up to control their lives. In any event, this is a terrible situation to be in and is reminiscent of the post that started this article.

Not wanting to look in the mailbox. This is my favorite as I have done this like EVERYONE has done this. This head-in-the-sand approach is probably costing you more money because, out of your fears about knowing and looking, you may be missing opportunities to undo the damage, or at least do damage control. Once you take the time to know what you are dealing with, it will be scary but you can adopt a plan of action to curtail new spending, take steps with creditors, pay bills on time to avoid those deathly default rates, etc.

Letting money “burn a hole in your pocket“. Having money handy is comforting to most people, but before you spend your tax return money, consider letting it “cool off” for awhile, safely parked in a savings account that’s difficult to access. Adopt a time frame where you choose to do nothing. You might find that you actually like saving.

Emotions about inheritances. An inheritance can elicit powerful feelings ranging from guilt over what you did not do for your parents, to sadness that they did not get to enjoy their own hard-earned money, to fear that you will blow through your inheritance, or feelings of entitlement after having had an unhappy family life. Whatever your case, get sound financial advice from a trusted source. My advice: resist fancy home improvements or any other impulse purchases until the money, and your emotions, “cools off.”

“I’m going to win Lotto”. Having dreams is a fun thing but if your solution to money stress is to score big at Lotto, you woke up and smoked your breakfast. The reality is that most of us will have to work until we get to retire, and only a tiny percentage of people ever win lotteries. It’s far better to use your wits to plan soundly towards making your retirement dream comfortable.

I think this list is a good one and I am sure there are plenty more. And for the guys reading this, it is very easy for us not to face our fears about this subject, grab a beer and forget about the discussion. DON’T! Get on the horse and tackle this thing if it is close to happening to you. I would say “be a man about it”, but you already know that is the case.

What is interesting is that this, along with so many other things in our society right now, is about to change drastically due to the things going on in the economy. This is a staple in all things manly…impromptu stuff…

GAS PRICES
People were just pissed off when gas prices hit $3/gallon last year. It did nothing to change car usage or consumption habits here in the States. Now that gas prices are north of $4/gallon with no real end in sight based on the price of oil, people are way beyond pissed. They are taking action. SUV’s and Pick-ups are on the selling block over town and prices on these guzzlers are coming way down. Even guys who use these auto’s as an extension of “who they are” or compensating for other inadequacies, are now simply saying “screw it. I can’t afford it and it is not that important.”

Gas prices just might force this type of solution for our garbage disposal. Our local garbage hauler will raise prices soon and guys like me will quickly tell them to go flock themselves - I will dispose of my own garbage - especially if I can do it cheaper.

FOOD PRICES
The price of a gallon of milk at our local store is now $4.30. There are many reasons for this, but WTF? The wife and I will make sure we will use every piece of food and throw NOTHING away. The price of cheese (and my wife is an addict to the stuff) has doubled over the last year! Absolutely NO more waste in our household. Again, another very significant trend to MUCH less garbage. If everyone does this, it will not make sense anymore for the trash man to make normal rounds around town in their gas guzzlers.

GREENING OF EVERYTHING
I called this over two years ago. EVERYTHING is going green and there is no argument here that this method of trash collection is greener than the current one. If we all lived in high-rises, the garbage collection would be identical to this one. You bring your garbage to a central location and it gets sorted and processed. Efficient and the ecological footprint is MUCH smaller. There is not much else to say on this “greening of everything” unless you have been living in a cave for the past couple of years - which I wouldn’t put past some of the folks I run into on a daily basis…

SMART DEVELOPMENT
As a developer, I can tell you that real estate usage and smart design is at the VERY top of our list when it comes to new projects. Smaller roads, alley loaded products, walk ability and mixed-use type of developments all lead to a garbage collection solution similar to one we see on this video.

IN CONCLUSION
Going to the garbage man with your garbage/recycling would suck (because it is such a change in mentality), but just might be the only way we can manage this in the future. It might be thrust upon us and it just might help all of us think a little bit about our consumption and our waste.

I am a bottom line kind of guy and I act with my pocketbook. If my collection company decides to charge a BUNCH more scratch to pick up my waste, then I will no doubt look for a different solution. This solution looks interesting and I can see this happening at some point in the future right here.

I promise this is the last post of gushing all over my son, but I wanted to put a special thanks out to my Mom for coming out as quickly as she did and helping out with our new baby, Jackson. This site is going to contain some really cool and useful information about stuff (most of all Las Vegas living and traveling to). If you want to check out the Las Vegas real estate market information just go to the other site maintain.

Now, when my Mom came out, we were brand spanking new parents. Adoptive parents at that! Which essentially means we had NO freaking clue what to do or how to do it. Worse yet, as adoptive parents, we had really no lead time to prepare physically or mentally for this crying baby in the house. My Mom always said she would come out to Vegas immediately upon having a new grandson or granddaughter. She did not let us down and we were VERY happy to have her around.

I have some pictures from her visit. Some she would want on the site and some maybe not. Well, I am putting what I want on here as we all know that the owner can do whatever he wants…

OK, so Mom (Cheryl) comes to Vegas and she immediately shows the new parents how to do it.

Grandma is feeding baby Jackson for the first time. Not sure if this is really the first time or not, but the sake of capturing the moment…here it is…

Grandma enjoying the little guy as much as she can . Grandma slept pretty good while here since Gail and I wanted to get up all night with the little guy. We were learning and didn’t want to miss a moment.

Mom doesn’t like to have her picture taken very much, so we didn’t get too many action shots with her and JD, but more to come at some point.

Enough already with the pics!!!!! But it is precious….check out the tat. Mom got wild at some point and put fresh ink on her arm.

Here is a photo that will be just timeless. This is a great shot and I am really glad I got a snapshot of this absolute great moment.

Another great shot of Grandma Bushbaker taking it all in. This is her third grandson. My brother, Scott, has two boys and you will see much more of them in future posts.

And finally, here is a great little story. You will see on a different post our favorite place in all of Las Vegas is Gordon Biersch at Flamingo and Paradise. This is a picture of the best bartender in town. Does he have the throwing and goofy skills you see for the tourists…I don’t think so, but maybe since I never asked. But he gives the best service in town for the locals and he is absolutely TOP-NOTCH. His partner in crime on Wed and Thurs nights is Billy (not shown). Both of these guys are the best in town and I encourage if you are in Vegas and want to hang with great local people (and some tourists) go see these guys. They are friends and this was a great picture. My Mom was very gracious to allow Gail and I a date night very early in this process. We went and visited our good friends at the bar and stayed for dinner while Grandma watched the little guy. I will never forget it…thanks Mom!

as very surprised that people are starting to find this blog. Really, I did not expect folks to be TOO interested in hearing about my family and what is happening in my life here in Vegas, but I think there is some fascination with the Vegas life that people like to hear about.

In any event, I was contacted by Larry M. Bushbaker recently. Don’t know who Larry is and when Pete pulled together the family tree, I did not pay attention to learn my family history as well as I should. I feel ashamed by this and will try MUCH harder in the future.

I have not spent as much time on this blog as my other blog, Las Vegas Real Estate Guy. At that site, I have a lot more to write about and say, at least I thought. I will most certainly spend more time creating content and information on this blog in the future. If for no other reason than my Mom has told some of her friends about it and they are paying attention….now I have a reputation to uphold. If they only knew…

I am going to work especially hard in the future to put pictures of my newborn boy here, Jackson. He is a great boy and we are having a lot of fun with him. I promise to put more of him up here….matter of fact, here are some of the prodigy right now. BTW, I am almost certain he said “daddy” the other day. I know at only 8 weeks old, he can’t really talk, but I think he has been watching Stewie on Family Guy. I am pretty sure he said it…

Here are a few recent pics from the little guy:

This is the JD simply saying “I am not sure if this finger is used for Similac dispensing or just for sucking or just…I am not sure…”

This is a great pic of the little man. His skin is glistening…not sure why…since he is a darker skinned young man, he dries out much more than pasty white Mommy and Daddy, so we have to lather him up quite often with lotion…he likes lotion…

His face is all goofy here, but the picture is to die for….LOVE IT!!!!!

Here he is simply saying “call me”. I am sure the next thing out of his mouth will be what Daddy would say as well, “let’s do lunch….you’re buying…” This is true…

Here is our very good friend from California (originally from Detroit). She is a natural, but not sure if children are in her future. Only she can answer that question….

I call this one Happy Alien Baby. Looks kind of like an alien with his big eyes. You know the old question for single guys looking at potentials…bug, mouse or horse? (you need to ask Nathan about it if you don’t know…)

He will be an athlete for certain, but is it too early? I didn’t think so. No objections from Mommy? Then it is settled.

One of my favorite pics of JD. He is sitting there looking at his Daddy definitely saying one of two things “Really daddy?” or “dude, when you gonna lose that shed around your waist?” Time to lose the weight and make sure I am setting the right example.

Another very cool pic. He is still pretty small in this picture, but Mommy loves Jackson…

I am not sure if Auntie Judy would want this pic on the site, but it is here. Auntie Judy was his first visitor from Detroit (except for my Mom of course). Jackson loves his Auntie Judy.

The family cat, Little P, simply says “whatever” to all this baby stuff. He is not amused and since losing Mr. Hobbs, he was #1 in the house. He knows he has been demoted, but still…can’t he care just a little bit???

And finally, my wife pulled together a neat little collage of our photos and put them in this 6 weeks PDF. Pretty cool…check it out…

OK…enough of the kid and other goofy pics. I promise to make this site as informative and interesting as possible. More cool Jackson pics coming though first…
